They test a black screen before they name a panel
A display that stays dark while the fans still turn can be the panel, a cable, or the board. They check which one it is before a screen is fitted. A cracked, dim, or flickering panel is changed when the panel itself is the fault. Batteries that swell or stop taking a charge, keys that stick or stay dead, and a spill on the mat are other jobs. So is an SSD or a new drive for a slow or failing disk, the fan and heat sink for overheating, and a malware clean for pop-ups and locked files.
Why the test comes before the order
The benefit is that a dark screen is not assumed to be a new panel. You hear what they found, and you hear the quote, before any paid work. A mistaken part does not have to be pulled back out.
