Paid work waits for you
The bench can change a cracked, flickering, or black screen when the panel is the fault, change a battery that swells or will not charge, change a keyboard with dead keys or a spill, fit an SSD or a new drive when the disk is slow or failing, repair a hot machine through the fan and heat sink, and remove malware when pop-ups or locked files are the trouble. None of that starts as paid work until you have heard the quote and agreed.
Why the pause is part of the job
The benefit is the pause. You can take the laptop away after you hear the fault. The counter does not treat arrival as permission to begin the paid part.
