Laptop Service & Repair: Common Problems and Expert Solutions

All articles

A common problem is useful only after it has a name. Service is not a name. A cracked panel, a pack that will not hold a charge, a row of dead keys, a disk that clicks, fans that roar, and a desktop full of windows you did not open are different jobs. This page is the solution that belongs to each one.

The solution is spoken at the counter, before any paid work. No charge is printed here. Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, ASUS, Apple, and MSI are opened in that room. Opening those lids is the daily work. It is not a certificate from the company that built the machine.

Black laptop keyboard on a light background
A keyboard is one job. A slow disk is another. The counter names which one it found.

A cracked, dim, or black picture

Leave cracked glass in the frame. Do not peel it, and do not press the break to see whether it grows. If you already own a cable and another screen, sending the picture out is a fair check. A clear picture outside, and none on the laptop, points at the panel or the cable. If you do not have that cable, leave the bezel on.

When the panel is the fault, the solution is a screen replacement. A dark picture while the fans still turn can still be the ribbon, or the board. Those are separated before a panel is ordered. You hear that result first.

A battery that fades, or a case that has risen

Watch what the laptop does once the adapter is unplugged. Write down roughly how long the pack lasted, and whether it lasted at all. That note is more useful than a part number copied off a sticker.

If the palm rest has risen, or the base will not sit flat, stop. Do not clamp the cover, and do not pierce the pack. Pull the adapter out and carry the laptop level, with the lid shut. When the pack is the fault, the solution is a new pack. A new pack does not repair a cracked panel, and it does not replace a disk.

Keys that stick, repeat, or say nothing

A crumb under one key is not the same as a row that types nothing, a letter that is missing, a key that types twice, or a deck that went soft after a drink. Do not pour water, or any cleaner, into the gaps. Do not pry a key that does not lift with a light touch.

When the keyboard is the fault, the solution is a keyboard. Bring the laptop while you still remember what landed on it, and when. Changing a setting will not restore a key that broke, or a row that liquid has ruined.

A laptop that has become slow

Restart once. Then notice whether one program drags, or the whole machine does. A disk that clicks, or a file that will not open because the disk is failing, should be switched off and carried in. Do not keep saving new work onto a disk that is already clicking. When the drive is the fault, the solution is an SSD or another hard disk. No size is printed on this page. The disk depends on the machine on the bench and on the quote you hear before anyone orders it.

If the files on the old disk matter, say so before the bottom cover comes off. Nothing here promises those files on the new disk.

Pop-up windows, a browser you did not open, and a laptop that grew heavy across a few weeks are handled by taking malware off and cleaning the system. Do not pay a window that says your files are locked. That clean does not drop a disk into the bay. The longer note, covering the drive, memory, heat, and a system that grew heavy, is in why a laptop runs slow and how that job is named.

Heat, then a shutdown

A laptop on a bed, a cushion, or inside a closed bag has nowhere to breathe. Set it on a hard table and see whether the roar eases. If the fans still roar, the palm rest stays hot, or the machine shuts down in the middle of a call, the solution is the fan and the heat sink. A shutdown on its own is not a dead pack, and it is not a failed board. The counter says which of those it found.

Do not open the case to blow the fan. Dust on the outside of a vent can be wiped with the laptop off. Dust inside the fan is the bench's job.

Windows will not finish starting

A laptop that reaches a logo and then stops, or that returns to the same screen before the desktop, can need Windows installed fresh. That install is the solution when the system itself will not start, or when you want to begin again. It is not a keyboard, and it is not a pack. Mention every fault you can see, including starred glass or a fading pack, so the quote lists each one.

A machine that stays fully dark, with no fan and no light, is a different problem. The checks for that are in why a laptop will not turn on.

Where the solution is named

The counter is at NO 35/1, NO 26, Ganesh Complex, Above TVS Showroom Main Road, Hosur Rd, opp. to Infosys Limited, Electronic City, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560100. You walk the laptop in. Nobody is sent to collect it from a flat or an office. Whoever lifts the cover should be the one who names the fault. That talk happens before any paid work. When the work is finished you take the same laptop home.

Call or WhatsApp 099724 47766. Describe what the laptop is doing in ordinary words, and ask for the quote before any paid work. How a repair note is built, and what changes the amount, is in common problems, repair costs, and expert solutions. The full list of work for this counter is on the services page. A desk check for the same faults is in common laptop problems and how they are fixed. Separate notes cover a cracked screen, a failed keyboard, and a weak battery, and an SSD or a new hard disk.
